Whereas only a little SA--gal activity was found in mock-infected injured arteries, transduction of AdenoRas into injured arteries increased SA--gal activity (Figure 3A, left). Immunohistochemical analyses indicated that these SA--gal?positive cells were VSMCs in the outer layer of the intima and the media (Figure 3A, right), which suggests that activation of Ras induced VSMC senescence in vivo as well.
