When these THP-1 differentiated cells were subsequently treated with oxidized low density lipoprotein (Ox-LDL), it was observed that ABC1 (a key regulator of the efflux of cholesterol from macrophages) was highly regulated. At the end of fourth day of treatment with Ox-LDL the expression of ABC1 was increased by 10-folds when compared with control. This indicates that Ox-LDL up-regulates ABC1 in differentiated THP-1cells.";
