Differentiation of human THP-1 cells into foam cells on treatment with 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (PMA) was observed in atherosclerotic lesions. When these THP-1 differentiated cells were subsequently treated with oxidized low density lipoprotein (Ox-LDL), it was observed that CD64 (FCFGR1) expressed low. At the end of fourth day of treatment with Ox-LDL the expression of CD64 was decreased by 4.27-folds when compared with control. This indicates that Ox-LDL down-regulates CD64 in differentiated THP-1cells.
