      "@value" : "To monitor the ability of ATRA and VD to activate the genetic program underlying monocytic differentiation in the M2 cellular context, we have investigated the expression of VD-responsive genes (Fig. 8) such as HMSE-1, CD14, and hOC by RT-PCR and the expression of genes controlled by a functional VDRE, such as p21waf-1 (51) , or RARE, such as E3 (52) , IRF-1 (53) and p21waf-1 (68) , by Northern blot analysis after different times of ATRA or VD treatment. Fig. 8 shows that both ATRA and VD treatment of Kasumi-1 cells causes a rapid induction of HMSE-1, CD14, and hOC expression, demonstrating VDR involvement in ATRA-dependent monocytic differentiation of M2-type blast cells."
