sub:_3 prov:value "Monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1; CCL2) is a CC-chemokine that activates CCR2 on monocytes and T lymphocytes (Rose et al., 2003Go). CCR2 may play a role in COPD, as MCP-1 levels are increased in sputum, bronchoalveolar lavage, and lungs of patients with COPD (Fig. 11), and MCP-1 is expressed in alveolar macrophages, T lymphocytes, and epithelial cells (Capelli et al., 1999Go; de Boer et al., 2000Go; Traves et al., 2002Go). MCP-1 is also secreted basally by type II pneumocytes in culture, and release is stimulated by LPS but inhibited by cigarette smoke extract (Witherden et al., 2004Go). CCR2 are down-regulated via Toll-like receptors 2 and 4 and other inflammatory receptors. MCP1 is a potent chemoattractant of monocytes." ;
